When choosing and installing switches and sockets for the bathroom, what should we pay attention to?

Besides paying attention to the quality of the switches and sockets themselves, we should also consider the function and performance parameters of the switches and sockets according to the requirements of electricity. Furthermore, there are also more important factors related to safety, such as compatibility with the environment. Different usage environments have different requirements for switches and sockets.

So, how do I choose the switches and sockets for the bathroom?

Generally speaking, when buying switches and sockets, it is advisable to go for well-known brands and waterproof varieties. The waterproof design of the shape can effectively avoid electric leakage due to accidental splashing of water.

For different electrical appliances, there are special selection requirements.

For example, when installing electric water heaters in the bathroom, it is necessary to use high-quality, waterproof 3-hole sockets and ensure safety in the ground hole. For the installation of bath heaters, warm air blowers, electric towel rails, or other heating appliances in the bathroom, double switches should be used and installed at the door of the bathroom. One switch would control the ceiling lamp in the bathroom, while the other switch would control the bath heaters, which not only ensures good aesthetics and convenience but also the safety of electricity consumption.

Another very important point is that child safety measures cannot be ignored.

In order to prevent children from getting electric shocks from touching the power hole with their fingers or metal objects, it is necessary to choose sockets with safety clips (child safety protection doors).

How do I install the bathroom switch and socket? What are the safety requirements?

  • Switch Installation Location: recessed switches should be 1.2–1.4 metres from the ground and 150–200 millimetres from the doorframe, horizontally. The switch’s location should correspond to the light's location, and the heights of switches in the same room should be consistent.
  • Socket wiring: when installing sockets, wiring must be done according to regulations. The wiring is different for two-hole and three-hole sockets.
  • (1) Requirements for wiring two-hole single-phase sockets: "Left zero, right fire" when the eye holes are arranged in horizontal rows, and upfire, down zero" when they are arranged in vertical rows.
  • (2) Requirements for wiring three-hole single-phase sockets: The grounding eye hole at the top must be firmly and properly connected with the grounding wire, and the remaining two eye holes must be wired according to the "left zero right fire" rule.
  • Note that the zero line cannot be connected wrongly or connected as a whole with the protective ground wire.
  • Pay attention to waterproofing. Some electrical appliances used in bathrooms should be switched off outside the room. If they must be installed in the interior, the waterproof performance of switches and sockets must be guaranteed. The switches and sockets should be kept away from the bathing area, and the installation height should not be lower than 0.5 metres above the floor to avoid electric shock accidents caused by water flowing into the bathroom by accident.

Of course, the above safety principles are particularly important, but they cannot be separated from the most important premise that the switches and sockets you purchase must be of high quality and qualified. Especially, do not choose unknown small brands and miscellaneous brands in the pursuit of cheapness. If possible, it is recommended here to choose well-known brands. Our product quality is guaranteed, the price is reasonable, and the craftsman will be recognised.
